I Surrender All, Part 1 of 3

AprilPath.mjb

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2 NKJV

What a blessed privilege we have been given by God to not only surrender all to Him (Romans 12:1) but to also have the assurance that He receives our surrender and promises to bring to pass His good, pleasing, and perfect will for our lives (Romans 12:2).

Our full surrender to God is the most positive thing we can do and the best decision we can make. Think of it, we are placing our lives into the hands of the One whose grace holds all blessings, whose heart holds all goodness, whose favor holds all kindness, whose ways hold all righteousness, whose will holds all love.

God’s will for our lives is far greater, far better, and far more satisfying than our own will for our lives. His paths will take us to higher places; His wisdom will take us to deeper joys; His light will take us to brighter tomorrows.

The impact of a life that has been fully surrendered to God can impact the lives of others for generations to come. One example is the life of Judson Van DeVenter.  Judson became a believer in Christ as a young man. He was highly creative and his college education helped him to become a successful art teacher.

While attending a local church, Judson was first drawn to the ministry of evangelism. The accomplishments of his career and the call toward evangelism soon became a major conflict in his life, lasting nearly five years. Here, in his own words, is how the conflict was settled…

“For some time, I had struggled between developing my talents in the field of art and going into full-time evangelistic work. At last the pivotal hour of my life came, and I surrendered all. A new day was ushered into my life. I became an evangelist and discovered down deep in my soul a talent hitherto unknown to me. God had hidden a song in my heart, and touching a tender chord, He caused me to sing.”

It was from his life experience that Judson Van DeVenter’s penned the words to the beloved hymn I Surrender All.

All to Jesus I surrender;
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken;
Take me, Jesus, take me now.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power;
Let Thy blessing fall on me.

    This devotional helps me to know that I am forever loved by a loving Father and for me to put my hand in is and for him to lead and guide me.
    Also to trust in him with all things even when things are hard because he will work everything out, working behind the scenes in our lives.
