We have received a glorious salvation in Jesus Christ. The Scriptures tell us that ours is “So great salvation” and that God is able to “save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him.” Salvation in Jesus is not just for the start of our walk with Him, or for its finish, but for every step in between. The One who saves you, keeps you; and the One who keeps you, brings you to your eternal home.
One of the mighty works of God’s salvation in our daily lives is His sustaining power:
I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me. Psalm 3:5 NKJV
Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you. Psalm 55:22 NKJV
It is no small thing that God sustains us. It is the ministry of His grace that keeps us from breaking down or running out of what we need as we follow His will and purpose for our lives.
One of our Meet Me in the Meadow readers, Teresa Colbert, has recently written a new and soon to be published book called The Journey…Beyond Shallow Waters. In it she quotes David Livingstone as saying, “God send me anywhere, only go with me. Lay any burden on me, only sustain me. And sever any tie in my heart except the tie that binds my heart to yours.” –David Livingstone
Another Meet Me in the Meadow reader, Colleen Woods (Ruby Shoes Co.), shared the following thoughts about the importance of God’s sustaining power in her life, “I am so amazed at His willingness to hold on to me, encourage me and send succor in the midst of my doubts and unbelief. I suppose I could say that I am amazed by how He has sustained me throughout the years of learning to trust Him and surrender all to Him—The enemy has robbed me of much of what the LORD intended for me. The mere illumination of that is affirmation of His sustaining grace. I am most excited about going forward!”
How can we move forward in God’s will? How can we press on in His purposes? How can we keep on in the place He has us? We do it through His sustaining power. He is the One who can keep us from falling; He is the One who can keep us from failing; He is the One who can keep us from fainting. By His sustaining power we don’t fade away, we are renewed; we don’t wilt away, we are refreshed; we don’t faint away, we are revived. When we are being sustained by God’s grace we are also being maintained by His power.
It is the Lord who has sustained you and brought you thus far in your walk of faith. He sustains you by feeding your spirit, by encouraging your heart, by building your faith, by strengthening your spirit, and by upholding you in every circumstance.
It is the Lord who has sustained you through the night, through the burdens, through the battles, through the heartaches, and through the tears. Look back and see His hand in all you have walked through, look around you, and see Him working in every situation; look ahead and see Him go before you as He leads you to a prepared place.
Today, the Lord sustains you…lean upon Him, fall back into His rest, abide in His joy, remain in His love, continue in His faithfulness, and stay upon your God—He will see you through and bring to completion the good work He has begun in you.
