Our Dreams or God’s Desires? Part 2 of 2

ElkRiver7.2013.mjb2.2

Every work that God does is a beautiful work and there is true beauty to be found through our full surrender to His will and His way in our lives— His riches come without sorrow, and He freely gives us all things to enjoy (Proverbs 10:22, 1 Timothy 6:17).

God has willed something far greater and more glorious for us than what can be found in the fulfillment of our human dreams. Compared to God’s desires for us, human dreams can fall far short of what God has planned for us.

What should we do with the dreams we carry? The best thing we can do is release them into God’s care and keeping. The things we have carried in our hearts that are of Him, and have to come to us as a result of delighting in Him, will return to us at the right time, at a higher level, with a richer meaning, and in a purer stream of our heart’s deepest joys.

“For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.” Philippians 2:13 NLT

Psalm 37:4 NLT tells us, “Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires.”

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. Ephesians 3:20 NKJV

Consider these poignant words…

Disturb us, Lord, when
We are too pleased with ourselves,
When our dreams have come true
Because we dreamed too little,
When we arrived safely
Because we sailed too close to the shore.

Disturb us, Lord, when
with the abundance of things we possess
We have lost our thirst
For the waters of life;
Having fallen in love with life,
We have ceased to dream of eternity.
—Sir Frances Drake

And shall I pray Thee change Thy will, my Father,
Until it be according unto mine?
But, no, Lord, no, that never shall be, rather
I pray Thee blend my human will with Thine.
― Amy Carmichael

I especially enjoyed the 2 poems at the end of this devotional. It’s
always enriching to hear from great people of faith from the past. And I really love Amy Carmichael’s writings.

On another topic, I really enjoyed reading your e-book on the Lessin family history and how salvation came to their family. My husband is not a great reader but he plans to read it too. I love the historical part which corresponds with some other books I have been reading by Bodie Thoene. Thank you for sharing this family history with us.

I have been using your devotional Never Forgotten, Always Loved for about 15 years now. It has been inspirational and I have shared many thing with my friends. Now I am reading Meet Me In The Meadow and just getting acquainted wit it. May the Lord continue His hand of blessing upon you and your ministry.

WOW, I’d be afraid to pray for the LORD to disturb me or HE might send me a trail. There are so many already but good teaching as really …. we need to pay more attention to JESUS all the time. With every beat of our heart.
