Emphasize and Personalize

Bird.mmitm.mjb

Two ways that can help you meditate upon Scripture are to emphasize and personalize a verse or passage. Here is an example from Philippians 4:6-7 NLT:

  • Emphasize—as you read through this passage you will notice different words that are highlighted in bold letters. The highlighted words are the ones to read with emphasis. The emphasis will change from line to line. The purpose is to help draw attention to its meaning for you personally.

Don’t worry about anything;
Don’t worry about anything;

instead, pray about everything.
instead, pray about everything.

Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done.
Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done.
Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done.

Then you will experience God’s peace,
Then you will experience God’s peace,
Then you will experience God’s peace,

which exceeds anything we can understand.
which exceeds anything we can understand.
which exceeds anything we can understand.

His peace will guard your hearts and minds
His peace will guard your hearts and minds
His peace will guard your hearts and minds

as you live in Christ Jesus.
as you live in Christ Jesus.
as you live in Christ Jesus.
as you live in Christ Jesus.

  • Personalize—read in your name each time you come to a blank line, or write in your name if you print it out.

_____________________Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.  ____________________, tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then ____________________ will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything ____________________ can understand. His peace will guard ____________________‘s heart and mind as ____________________ lives in Christ Jesus.
