For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made us understand that it is the brightness of His glory that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6 NKJV
We need to look upon the face of Jesus if we want to see the glory of God. It is not Jesus’ physical image that God wants us to look upon, but the glory that radiates from Jesus’ person. This glory cannot be seen through an artist’s painting of Jesus, but through a revelation of His glory that the Holy Spirit brings to us.
We behold Jesus’ face with the eyes of our spirits. When the light of the Holy Spirit comes to shine within us, our spiritual eyes can see far more than our physical eyes could ever see. It is the image of Jesus’ character, the revelation of His love, the wonder of His majesty, the expression of His mercies, and the beauty of His holiness that God wants us to see when we look upon Jesus’ face.
Come shine upon my heart, Holy Spirit, reveal to me the face of Jesus. Show me His glory that I may more fully know the Father. Cause me to see things I have never known, take me to depths I have never been, change my heart in ways I have never expected, move me to greater heights in worship, and increase my capacity to behold You in the fullness of Your splendor. Amen.
