Godliness is Loveliness

Godliness is loveliness and its beauty is found wherever there is truth, wherever there is goodness, wherever there is love.

Beauty is suitableness. Beauty is one of those special “welcoming” words. It’s a word we like to invite into our thoughts and set a table for in our hearts. We were made to identify, enjoy, and celebrate beauty. Beauty is something we want to bring into the light so we can look upon it, something we want to bring into our conversation so we can talk about it, and something we want to give to others so they can be blessed by it.

Beauty is radiance. Every bride is different, yet every bride is beautiful. Whether the wedding is outside or inside, on a mountain top, or at a beach, all who attend have one expectation…to see the bride. When the bride appears, all eyes are fixed upon her. The setting is important, the wedding dress is important, the bouquet is important, but the place every eye turns is upon the face of the bride. It is her radiance that draws the attention of the guests and captures their hearts.

Beauty is magnificence. We are enriched because of it—beauty doesn’t diminish, it increases; it doesn’t bring less to our lives, it brings more; it doesn’t empty our appreciation, it helps to fill it. Its magnificence takes us to higher ground and greater depths of delight.

Beauty is comeliness. Beauty doesn’t trouble us, it pleases us. When God spoke the words, “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” He was telling us about the beauty of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ not only had a beautiful mind, He had a beautiful will, beautiful emotions, beautiful attitudes, beautiful choices, beautiful words, beautiful deeds, and a beautiful relationship with His Father.

Beauty is pleasantness. Beauty is not a downer. It does not come into your life to ruin it. It is not disagreeable or contentious. It does not come to give you a hard time. Beauty helps you wear a smile and brings you pleasure. Beauty in your life always makes for good company.

Beauty is delightfulness. Beauty is discovered in the glory of what God has created. The glory of a rose is in its form, in the color of its petals, and in its fragrance. Spend your day in the company of beauty and you will be able to describe your day as being DELIGHTFUL! Delightfulness is pleasantness multiplied by ten! With all of the ugliness that is in the world, we are in great need of delightful discoveries and delightful days.

Beauty is holiness. The purer the stream the more lovely its waters—we want to swim in untainted oceans, fish in clear lakes, and drink from unpolluted fountains. We enjoy looking at clear skies, breathing air that is not polluted, and walking on pathways that are not covered with litter. The purest stream flows from the heart of God. Every aspect of beauty is found, in its fullness, in God alone. He is the most beautiful person in the entire universe. He is beautiful because He is holy. God has no flaws, no stains, no impurities, no defilement. His holiness allows us to delight in Him, enjoy Him, and behold Him in deepest adoration.

One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek, inquire for, and [insistently] require: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord [in His presence] all the days of my life, to behold and gaze upon the beauty [the sweet attractiveness and the delightful loveliness] of the Lord and to meditate, consider, and inquire in His temple. Psalm 27:4 AMP

Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. Psalm 29:2 NKJV

So the King will greatly desire your beauty; Because He is your Lord, worship Him. Psalm 45:11 NKJV

For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the Lord made the heavens. Honor and majesty are before Him; Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary. Psalm 96:5-6 NKJV

Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness! Tremble before Him, all the earth. Psalm 96:9 NKJV

In that day the Lord of hosts will be For a crown of glory and a diadem of beauty To the remnant of His people. Isaiah 28:5 NKJV

Your eyes will see the King in His beauty. Isaiah 33:17 NKJV

Thank you so much for making the beauty of Christ and God so palpable. My earnest prayer remains: GOD, LET THE BEAUTY OF JESUS BE SEEN IN ME, ALL HIS WONDROUS COMPASSION AND PURITY, O, THOU SPIRIT DIVINE, ALL MY NATURE REFINE TILL THE BEAUTY OF JESUS IS SEEN IN ME.” Amen.

Thank you so much for this wonderful post. It caused me to think of beauty in a new way and reminded me of the beauty of God. Holiness is not just something that points out our sinfulness, holiness also points to God’s loveliness. It is that loveliness that draws us to Him in adoration rather than cowering in fear.

    Thank you.
