Great Quotes

I recently read the following quotes concerning the will of God in our lives:

What can cross your will, when it is one with His will? –H.E. Manning

If we cannot work out the will of God where God has placed us, then why has He placed us there? –J.H. Thom

It is not the multitude of hard duties, it is not constraint and contention that advance us in our Christian course. On the contrary, it is the yielding of our wills without restriction and without choice, to tread cheerfully every day in the path in which Providence leads us, to seek nothing, to be discouraged by nothing, to see our duty in the present moment, to trust all else without reserve to the will and power of God. –Fenelon

Great quotes have always had an important part of the ministry of DaySpring through the years. Some of our earliest products carried these meaningful quotes:

God is ready to assume full responsibility for the life that is wholly yielded to Him.
-Hudson Taylor

Your future is as bright as the promises of God.
-William Carey

He is no fool who gives up what He cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.
-Jim Elliot

Is there a special Christian quote that the Lord has used to bless your life? If so, leave a comment* and share it with us. Please include the name of the author if you know it. Thank you.

Great Quote About God’s Will:

In His Will

First, He brought me here; it is by His will I am in this strait place; in that fact I will rest.

I am here–BY GOD’S APPOINTMENT

Next, He will keep me here in His love, and give me grace to behave as His child.

I am here–IN HIS KEEPING

Then, He will make the trial a blessing, teaching me the lessons He intends me to learn, and working in me the grace He means to bestow.

I am here–UNDER HIS TRAINING

Last, in His good time, He can bring me out again–how and when He knows.

I am here–FOR HIS TIME

-Andrew Murray

Seeing Jesus

Great Quotes:

In his book We Would See Jesus, Roy Hession reminds us, “We do not need to itemize the Christian life; it is enough to see Jesus. Each aspect of Christian experience is made real in us just by seeing Him. He is both the Blessing we all seek and the easily accessible Way to that blessing. The Lord Jesus has come to take from us every yoke of bondage and to set us free to serve Him in the freshness and spontaneity of the Spirit, and all that by the simple sight of Him which the Holy Spirit gives to the eye of faith. It is enough to see Jesus and to go on seeing Him.”

Let God’s Will Be Done

Great Quotes

A great many people are afraid of the will of God, and yet I believe that one of the sweetest lessons that we can learn in the school of Christ is the surrender of our wills to God, letting Him plan for us and rule our lives. If I know my own mind, if an angel should come from the throne of God and tell me that I could have my will done the rest of my days on earth, and that everything I wished should be carried out, or that I might refer it back to God, and let God’s will be done in me and through me, I think in an instant I would say: “Let the will of God be done.”

I cannot look into the future. I do not know what is going to happen tomorrow; in fact, I do not know what may happen before night; so I cannot choose for myself as well as God can choose for me, and it is much better to surrender my will to God’s will.
-D.L. Moody

Great Quotes

The following three quotes are from Corrie Ten Boom…

Obedience is easy when you know you are being guided by a God who never makes mistakes.

Always when I say that I am not able, I get the same answer from the Lord. He says, “I know you can’t. I have known it already a long time. I am glad now you know it for yourself, for now you can let Me do it.”

It had become almost second nature not to make my plans and then ask for God’s signature. Rather, I had learned to wait for God’s plan and then write my name on the schedule.

Great Quotes on Prayer

The Ministry of Prayer

“Prayer should be the breath of our breathing, the thought of our thinking, the soul of our feeling, and the life of our living, the sound of our hearing, the growth of our growing.” Prayer in its magnitude is length without end, width without bounds, height without top, and depth without bottom. Illimitable in its breadth, exhaustless in height, fathomless in depths and infinite in extension.–HOMER W. HODGE

The Promises and Prayer

Every promise of Scripture is a writing of God, which may be pleaded before Him with this reasonable request: “Do as Thou hast said.” The Creator will not cheat His creature who depends upon His truth; and, far more, the Heavenly Father will not break His word to His own child. “Remember the word unto Thy servant, on which Thou hast caused me to hope,” is most prevalent pleading. It is a double argument: It is Thy Word, wilt Thou not keep it? Why hast Thou spoken of it if Thou wilt not make it good? Thou hast caused me to hope in it; wilt Thou disappoint the hope which Thou hast Thyself begotten in me?–C. H. SPURGEON

Great Quotes

A sovereign Protector I have,
Unseen, yet forever at hand,
Unchangeably faithful to save,
Almighty to rule and command.

He smiles, and His comforts abound;
His grace as the dew shall descend,
And walls of salvation surround
The soul He delights to defend.

-Augustus Toplady, Author of the hymn Rock of Ages

CHRISTIAN, consider this new epoch of time, unfold a new page of your yet unwritten history, with the full, unwavering conviction that God is faithful; that in all the negotiations, transactions, and events of the unknown future, in all the diversified and fluctuating phases of experience through which you may pass, it will be your mercy to do with Him of whom it is said, "It is impossible for God to lie." Oh, take this precious truth into your heart, and it will shed a warm sunlight over all the landscape of your yet shadowy existence. "He abides faithful: He cannot deny Himself." Standing yet within the solemn vestibule of this new and portentous year, could our fluttering hearts find repose in a more appropriate or sweeter truth than the Divine faithfulness of Him, "with whom there is no variableness neither shadow of turning"? As a new period of time slowly rises from the depths of the unknown and mysterious future, shrink we from its stern and solemn duties, its bosomed sorrows, its deep and impenetrable decrees? Why shrink we? Infinite resources unveil their treasures upon its threshold. Christ's atoning merits confront our vast demerit. Christ's boundless grace confronts our deep necessities. Christ's promised presence confronts our sad and gloomy loneliness. Jesus thus filled with grace so overflowing, with love so tender, with sympathy so exquisite, with power so illimitable, with resources so boundless, with a nature so changeless, stands before us and says to each trembling heart, "Fear not!"

-Octavius Winslow

As your days, so shall your strength be. Deut. 33:25

Great Quotes on Prayer

Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. Jeremiah 33:3 KJV

In today’s posting we will consider three different aspects of prayer from three of God’s faithful servants.

We are inclined to pray as though this world were in the grip of cold, fixed laws, with only the remote possibility that God might occasionally break through. We timidly whisper a few feeble petitions barely hoping, but certainly not believing that we shall receive. But God is not a prisoner in His own universe. Jesus is the Lord of all creation, King of kings and Lord of lords. -Vance Havner

Prayer is Spirit-suggested. It needs a strongly bended will. Through that comes the open or trained ear. Se we learn God’s plans. We catch the prayer He needs to have prayed. His promise turns into a prayer on our lips, and so it is a prophecy of what He will do. Thus prayer is restrained as well as inspired. Its whole purpose is to get God’s love-will done through the needed human channels. Prayer’s touchstone is a trained ear.

Great Quotes on Guidance

My last posting focused on seeking God’s guidance through prayer. Today’s quote helps us focus on the importance of obeying the guidance God gives us. God will be very specific as He guides our lives. When Peter was troubled over something Jesus said to another disciple, Jesus’ answer in John 21:22 was clear, “…What is that to you? As for you, follow me.”

We must know what God is asking us to do and not be led astray by what others want us to do. As the Holy Spirit guides us, He will not say “yes” to every opportunity that presents itself to us. Not every urge we have is necessarily the Holy Spirit prompting us to do something. Don’t be troubled if the Holy Spirit is telling someone else to do something and He is not telling you. Walk in His peace and only do what He is asking you to do.

There are calls for help on every hand. But as we keep quiet, with our heart absolutely willing to follow the Holy Spirit’s leading, we shall know with certainty which “Come over and help” is the Master’s call, to be followed. He knows the needs. There is a “Lord of the harvest.” Except we fit into His plan, we really tangle and hinder, instead of helping. Not service but obedience is the touchstone of power. -S. D. Gordon

What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams. 1 Samuel 15:22 NLT
