Always at Home

The following guest posting is from Bonnie Jensen, senior writer for DaySpring Cards.

Lord, through all the generations You have been our home! Before the mountains were created, before the earth was formed, You are God without beginning or end. PSALM 90:1-2 TLB

I met a man named Joe Lach. He’s 84 years old. When he asked me how long I’d lived in the area, I told him about a year and a half. He smiled and with a giggle said, “I’ve lived here for 65 years.”

A few things went through my head as I smiled back with wide eyes. For one, I thought how rare it is in this day and age to meet a person who has lived in one place their entire adult life. I also reflected on all the changes he must have seen this little town go through. Then I thought of the different places I’ve lived and how nomadic my journey feels in comparison to my new friend—and my transitions are likely not over.

I’m thankful for new friends, a new year, and new blessings, but I’m also thankful I can say with confidence that I have a home that never moves or changes. A place I can go for refuge, unconditional love, a listening ear, a forgiving heart, and joy that has no comparison. A place where I am known, and blessed, and reminded that I’m invaluable. A place where comfort overflows, sorrows fade away, and the cares of the world disappear.

God is my home. God is our home. He never moves away…changes…or becomes difficult to find. He’s the same yesterday, today, and forever. And at the dawn of a brand new year, when we will see changes in our lives, our cities, our country, and our world, we can go to Godwhere everything will always be arranged with perfect love and securely in place.

The Incarnation

Deity became tangible
Spirit became visible
Love became personal
Peace became possible
Grace became feasible
Mercy became available
Truth became verifiable
Glory became undeniable
Sin became forgivable
Death became defeatable
Sorrow became replaceable
Victory became obtainable
Heaven became accessible
Life’ became livable
(Satan became miserable)
And all because of JESUS
The wonderful
The incredible
The indescribable
One!

–David Ravenhill

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:5-11 NKJV

THE HABIT OF 8

Today’s guest posting is from Bonnie Jensen. Her devotional writings have been a blessing, a help, and an encouragement to many at Meet Me in the Meadow. Bonnie is a senior writer for DaySpring Cards.

Live carefree before God; He is most careful with you. I PETER 5:7 The Message

Recently, I was given the advice of a wise, elderly man. It was simply this: give it to God and go to sleep.

Through the years he’d learned that when his head hit the pillow, the cares of life seemed to bear down. The mind can be the hardest thing to put to bed at night—so he determined to get in the habit of saying what he believed and shutting it down. After all, God’s not going to sleep. He’s paying attention. He’s making provision. He’s keeping promises. He’s preparing the way.

It’s easy to let the recorder from the day, the week, the month, start running through our minds when we finally settle down from our busy days. For some reason, it’s much more difficult to hit the ‘stop’ button. But we need to get in the habit of these eight short words: give it to God and go to sleep.

There will always be things to think about, worry about, plan for, be sorry for…but unless all is put in God’s able hands, it soon becomes a weight for our hearts. We don’t get to keep an ounce of burden.

Everything must be let go to Him for anything to go right.

In the powerful words of Oswald Chambers…The child of God will never think of anything the Heavenly Father will forget.
